Vibe Coding Framework: List → Rank → Plan
Step 1: List —
Step 2: Rank —
Who / Why / Task / To-Be / Test

🇬🇧 Hold On! Don’t Prompt AI to Code Yet — The Vibe Coding Framework: List → Rank → Plan
Summarized from the latest video on the Lin Davoy channel, a follow-up to the episode where we built a massage-shop ERP in a single day. If that made you want to open your laptop and tell AI to start coding right away… hold on. Throwing AI at an app with no direction usually ends in buggy, off-target software. Grab a pen and paper first, and get clear on what you actually need.
The Vibe Coding Framework is Lin’s own three-step method: List what you want, Rank it by priority, and Plan each feature in detail — so you can brief the AI precisely.
Step 1: List — get everything out
Write down every problem and need, even 20–30 items, then break each problem into the smallest possible feature. For the massage shop: session logging, therapist pay calculation, reviews, cash reconciliation, day-off scheduling, a summary dashboard, and so on.
Step 2: Rank — one feature at a time, shipped fast
You can’t build everything in round one, and trying to usually breaks things everywhere. Pick what matters most. For the massage shop, #1 was therapist pay and guaranteed minimum pay, which gets recorded daily; next might be daily/monthly profit summaries or a queue system. Add features incrementally.
Step 3: Plan — the 2W + 3T formula
Break each top feature down with five questions: Who uses it, Why they would switch to it, the Task that must get done (often an existing process, like writing on paper), the To-Be state in the new system, and the Test that proves it works. Don’t skip Why — plenty of AI-built tools look impressive but can’t explain how they make anyone’s life easier, so nobody comes back.
Example: therapist pay & guaranteed minimum
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Who | Massage therapists and the shop owner |
| Why | Therapists: no more arguing over handwriting or adding up numbers themselves Owner: easier records, fewer mistakes |
| Task | Therapists log hours worked; the owner gets the amount to transfer per therapist (daily or monthly) |
| To-Be | An editable entry page plus an automatic summary; the owner still transfers manually (copy-paste the amount is enough) |
| Test | Handles different transfer amounts and discounts, edits after mistakes, correct full-hour pricing, and correct totals both below and above the 600 THB guarantee |
From paper to demo
Lin walks through a demo site with fake data. The entry form captures start time, massage type, therapist, payment method, actual amount paid and customer nationality; the summary shows who worked how much, the hourly pay due, the 600 THB floor, and customer feedback. Try it at masademo.vercel.app.
It’s never finished on day one — and that’s fine
Version one is never perfect, but that’s no excuse to skip a clear plan. A month after “finishing” the massage-shop app, Lin still tweaks it almost daily: a late-arrival rule that cuts the guarantee from 600 to 400, reviews, bank reconciliation, price and cost changes, new dashboard views, even “what do we charge for a 3-hour massage?”
Why business owners should vibe-code it themselves
Lin doesn’t recommend hiring someone to whip up an app. She doesn’t understand the code the AI wrote, but she understands every piece of the business logic — and because she built it, she can change it the moment requirements change. If you own the business or work the front line, you can do this: a first version in a day, refined as you go.
Takeaway: before prompting AI, List everything, Rank what matters most, and Plan it with Who / Why / Task / To-Be / Test.
