🇹🇭 คนอาจจะเลิกใช้ Power BI / Tableau? เมื่อ GenAI พาเรากลับไปหา Code-Based Dashboard
เมื่อวานไปสอนลูกค้าเรื่อง Data Visualization แล้วมีคำถามหนึ่งขึ้นมาในห้อง ซึ่งน่าสนใจมากสำหรับคนที่หากินด้วยการสอน Power BI และ Tableau อย่างเรา — จะมีไหมวันที่ทุกคนเลิกใช้ Power BI และ Tableau สิ้นเชิง แล้วเปลี่ยนไปให้ AI เขียน Dashboard เป็นโค้ดแทน? ไม่ว่าจะเป็น Claude Code, Codex หรือ Gemini ที่เขียนโค้ดแทนเราได้แล้วจริง ๆ (สรุปจากคลิปของช่อง Lin Davoy)
จุดที่ AI ยังแทนไม่ได้: การกด ๆ ลาก ๆ ในตัวโปรแกรม
ก่อนอื่นต้องเข้าใจก่อนว่า Power BI และ Tableau เป็นโปรแกรมที่มี option เยอะมาก เราต้องกดตรงนู้นตรงนี้ ลาก Field มาวาง ปรับแต่งทีละจุด ซึ่งการทำงานแบบ GUI หนัก ๆ แบบนี้ ณ วันนี้ค่อนข้างมั่นใจว่า AI ยังสร้างไฟล์ Power BI หรือ Tableau แทนเราไม่ได้ แม้จะใช้ Computer Use ให้ AI ควบคุมหน้าจอก็ยังทำได้ไม่ถึงขั้นนั้น
แต่สิ่งที่เห็นในห้องเรียนน่ากลัวกว่า: ข้ามโปรแกรม BI ไปเลย
สิ่งที่ผู้เรียนคนหนึ่งทำคือ เขาไม่ได้ให้ AI ไปสร้างไฟล์ Power BI เลย แต่โยนข้อมูลทั้งก้อนให้ Claude แล้วสั่งบรีฟเดียวสั้น ๆ ว่า “create dashboard in HTML from this data” ผลคือน้องเขียนเว็บ Dashboard ออกมาให้ทั้งหน้า มี interactive filter ให้กดเล่นได้เหมือนโปรแกรม BI จริง ๆ โดยไม่ต้องพึ่ง Power BI หรือ Tableau แม้แต่นิดเดียว — จากบรีฟเดียวเท่านั้น
ทำไมโค้ดถึงกลับมา? เพราะ GenAI พ่นออกมาเป็นตัวอักษร
Generative AI โดยธรรมชาติคือการพ่นตัวอักษรออกมา และสิ่งที่ทำให้เราว้าวส่วนใหญ่ก็คือน้องพ่นออกมาเป็น “โค้ด” ซึ่งโค้ดคือภาษาที่เราใช้คุยกับคอมพิวเตอร์มาตั้งแต่ยุค MS-DOS ก่อนจะมี Windows เสียอีก สิ่งที่ Windows ทำให้ง่ายขึ้นคือเปลี่ยนโค้ดยึกยือให้กลายเป็น Graphic User Interface มีปุ่มให้กด แล้วเราก็อยู่กับ GUI กันมาตลอด โดยที่หลังบ้าน Terminal ก็ยัง run in parallel มาเรื่อย ๆ จนวันหนึ่ง AI Coding Agent มาถึง — ความโหดคือมันไม่ได้แค่เขียนโค้ดให้ แต่มันกด run ให้เอง debug ให้เอง จบทั้งลูปโดยเราไม่ต้องแตะเลย
สมัยก่อนเขียนเองน้ำตาจะไหล วันนี้บรีฟเดียวจบ
ถ้าไปเปิด Developer Tools ดูหลังบ้านของ Dashboard ที่ AI เขียน จะเห็นว่าโค้ดพวกนี้ถ้าต้องเขียนเองคือยากมาก สมัยเรียน Data Visualization อาจารย์เคยให้โปรเจกต์เขียน Dashboard แบบนี้หนึ่งรอบ แทบร้องไห้ เพราะยุคนั้นยังไม่มี AI ต้องนั่งไล่ Stack Overflow ทีละก้อน แต่วันนี้ถ้าเรามีภาพในใจชัด มีข้อมูลที่ดี แล้วบรีฟน้องดี ๆ น้องก็ปริ๊บเดียวออกมาเป็น Dashboard ทั้งหน้าได้เลย
ไม่ใช่แค่ BI — PowerPoint ก็โดนด้วย แต่บางโปรแกรมยังรอด
เรื่องนี้ไม่หยุดที่ Power BI หรือ Tableau แม้แต่งาน Presentation — ถ้าให้ Claude เขียนไฟล์ PowerPoint ตรง ๆ อาจจะออกมาไม่สวยเลย แต่ถ้าบอกว่าไม่เอา PowerPoint ขอเป็นหน้าเว็บ HTML หรือภาษาที่น้องถนัด น้องเขียนออกมาสวยมาก ในทางกลับกัน โปรแกรมเฉพาะทางอย่าง 3D Slicing สำหรับ 3D Printer ที่ต้องทำ slicing ทำ print plate — พวกนี้ AI ยังทำแทนไม่ได้ 100% สรุปคือโปรแกรมไหนที่ใช้ยากเหลือเกิน และผลลัพธ์เป็นสิ่งที่โค้ดสร้างได้ ก็มีแนวโน้มจะถูกสวิตช์ไปทำบนโค้ดแทน

ในมุมคนทำงานจริง แม้วันหนึ่ง Power BI อาจถูกลดบทบาทลง แต่แนวคิดในการทำ Dashboard — การคิดว่าเราอยากเห็นอะไร การวาดภาพว่าอยากดูอะไร การตั้ง Business Question ให้ถูก — สิ่งนี้คือหัวใจที่ AI ยังทำแทนไม่ได้ ถ้าเราแม่นเรื่องนี้จริง จะใช้ Power BI, Tableau หรือโค้ดจาก AI ตัวไหนก็ตาม คำตอบสุดท้ายก็ตอบโจทย์ธุรกิจได้เหมือนเดิม ส่วนจะโดนแย่งจริงไหม ยังคอนเฟิร์มไม่ได้ ต้องติดตามกันต่อไปค่ะ ใครสนใจอยากให้ไปสอน ไม่ว่าจะเป็น Power BI แบบดั้งเดิมเพื่อเข้าใจหลังบ้าน หรือสอนใช้ Claude ทำ Dashboard ก็ทัก LINE มาได้เลยนะคะ
🇬🇧 Will GenAI Code-Based Dashboards Replace Power BI & Tableau?
While teaching a data visualization class, a fascinating question came up — especially pointed for someone who makes a living teaching Power BI and Tableau: will there come a day when everyone abandons these BI tools entirely and switches to AI-written, code-based dashboards? Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini can all genuinely write that code now. (Summarized from a video on the Lin Davoy channel.)
What AI still cannot do: the clicking and dragging
Power BI and Tableau are heavy GUI programs — endless options, dragging fields onto canvases, tweaking settings one by one. I am fairly confident today’s AI cannot build a Power BI or Tableau file for you, even with computer-use agents driving the screen. The interfaces are simply too click-driven.
The scary part: skipping the BI tool altogether
What a student did in class was scarier than any AI-inside-Power-BI scenario: they threw an entire dataset at Claude with a single brief — “create dashboard in HTML from this data” — and got back a complete web dashboard with working interactive filters. No Power BI, no Tableau. One brief.
Why code is coming back
Generative AI fundamentally emits text, and most of the “wow” moments are it emitting code — the language we have used to talk to computers since MS-DOS, long before Windows wrapped everything in a graphical interface. The terminal never went away; it ran in parallel behind the GUI all along. What changed is that AI coding agents do not just write the code — they run it and debug it themselves, closing the whole loop. Code that used to take a tearful semester project and endless Stack Overflow digging now comes out of one well-written brief.
Beyond BI — and the verdict
The same logic hits presentations: Claude writes ugly PowerPoint files, but ask for an HTML page instead and the result is beautiful. Meanwhile specialized tools like 3D-printer slicing software remain safe for now. The pattern: any painful-to-use program whose output code can reproduce is a candidate for the switch. But the heart of dashboarding — knowing what you want to see and which business question it answers — stays human. Nail that, and whichever tool wins, your answer serves the business just the same. Whether Power BI actually gets displaced? Too early to confirm — let’s keep watching.
